Bombardier made new locomotive deal with German rail

German rail operator Deutsche Bahn said Thursday it had agreed to buy up to 450 electric locomotives worth as much as 1.5 billion euros ($2 billion) over 10 years from Bombardier of Canada.

Bombardier partner CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Co. Ltd. (CSR Puzhen), a subsidiary of China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Corporation Limited, has won an order for 15 catenary-free low-floor trams for the city of Nanjing. The trams for the capital of China’s Jiangsu Province, home to over eight million people, will serve two lines in its downtown districts. The new order follows an order for 18 low-floor trams won by CSR Puzhen in January 2013 for the city of Suzhou.

Bombardier Transportation announced recently that it has signed a variation order to develop and supply important components for the next generation ICx high speed trains for Deutsche Bahn (DB AG) under a framework agreement with Siemens AG signed in May 2011.

Have filed petition to court

Deutsche Bahn has filled a petition to the courts of Berlin and Munich against the Canadian Bombardier, accusing it of poor quality of delivered rail cars. According to the Germany newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Deutsche Bahn is seeking cost recovery of 160 million euros.
